Two Sides of a Story

Lately, different news stories on a single matter – particularly about Israel – can present opposing information. Take, for example, the following:

Concerning Aid Delivery to Gaza

Around the globe, accusers say that Israel is starving Gazans in an act of genocide. While there’s no question that Gazans are suffering tragically, and we should most definitely be praying for them, Israel presents a different side of this story.

Israel says it has sent 23,000 aid trucks into Gaza, including 2,500 tons (that’s 5 million pounds) of baby food.  Israel says that 950 of those semi-trucks full of aid still sit in a compound waiting for the UN to collect them. The UN says Israeli bureaucracy is to blame for that.  Israel says they are allowing entry of aid beyond international requirements and without restriction.

Concerning Incidents of IDF Fire on Palestinians at Aid Sites

In recent weeks, there have been incidents claiming IDF soldiers fired on and killed Palestinians near food distribution sites. Regarding the most disputed incident, accusers say that IDF soldiers shot and killed starving Gazans waiting in line for food. Israel says it does not target civilians, fires warning shots at those posing a threat to troops, and only shoots at individuals when soldiers’ lives are threatened.

An IDF soldier at the scene says they fired only when their lives were in danger, according to an interview given to the Jerusalem Post. The soldier also explained that they fired not at hungry civilians quietly waiting in line, but at a clearly orchestrated, rushing mob of thousands – with automatic weapons firing from behind the crowd – attempting to storm the aid the troops were guarding until the distribution center opened.

These examples show why we must continue to pray for Israel – for fair, factual, and unbiased media coverage. Without this, the world falls prey to lies and propaganda, not knowing which side of a story to believe. Two Sides of a Story
